Mid-1970s Type 4 issue of Airfix's 1968-tooled Helldiver, Series 2, Made in England. The kit builds either an SB2C-4 or -5, with an opening bomb bay, optional folded wings, crew figures, and a full ordnance set: trapeze-mounted bomb, underwing bombs or drop tanks, and rockets. Decals for two US Navy aircraft, including an SB2C-4 of Air Group 87 aboard USS Ticonderoga, 1945.

The Helldiver was the US Navy's standard carrier dive bomber from late 1943, replacing the beloved Dauntless after a famously troubled development. Crews called it "the Beast," but it delivered: Helldivers led the strikes that sank the super-battleships Musashi and Yamato, and hammered Japanese shipping and airfields across the Pacific until war's end.
