Description
AIR01054 - Airfix - 1/72 DHC Chipmunk - WWWEB10105165
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk was designed and built right here in Toronto. It was the first aircraft designed by de Havilland’s Canadian branch, at Downsview, and first flew there in 1946 as a replacement for the Tiger Moth biplane. The RCAF used it as its primary trainer, and the RAF adopted it as the T.10, building hundreds in Britain for the University Air Squadrons and Reserve Flying Schools. The “Chippy” was a real pilot’s aeroplane, nimble and forgiving but demanding enough to teach good habits. For generations of air cadets it was their first taste of flight, and it stayed in RAF Air Experience Flight service into the 1990s.
