Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Corvette Grand Sport was a factory lightweight racing programme launched by Zora Arkus-Duntov in defiance of GM's corporate ban on motorsport involvement, with only five coupes built before the project was shut down. Designed specifically to compete with and defeat the Shelby Cobra roadsters in GT racing, the Grand Sports featured aluminium bodywork over a tube-frame chassis and a 377 cubic inch all-aluminium V8, and they regularly outran the Cobras when campaigned by privateers. This kit depicts Grand Sport chassis 005 as it ran at the rain-plagued 1965 Sebring 12 Hours, driven by George Wintersteen, Peter Goetz, and Milton Diehl, finishing 14th overall and second in the Prototype GT class for cars over 4000cc.
