The Northrop F-89 Scorpion was a twin-engine, all-weather interceptor designed to defend North American airspace against Soviet bombers during the early Cold War. The F-89J was the final production variant, modified to carry the AIR-2A Genie unguided nuclear rocket alongside conventional AIM-4 Falcon missiles, making it one of the first operational aircraft armed with nuclear air-to-air weapons. It served primarily with Air National Guard units into the early 1960s.

Originally tooled by Hobbycraft (HC1377, 1992), this Academy release from 2000 incorporates new parts.
