Description
ACA12448 - Academy 1/72 SR-71 Blackbird - WWHP113313
Preowned, Original seal, Box worn
Designed under Kelly Johnson at Lockheed's Skunk Works, the SR-71 flew reconnaissance at Mach 3 and above 80,000 feet, high and fast enough that the standard evasion tactic against a surface-to-air missile was simply to accelerate. Its titanium airframe expanded so much from friction heating that the fuel tanks sealed only once the aircraft was at speed. The Blackbird served from 1966 to 1998 and still holds the official speed record for a manned air-breathing aircraft. Academy's 1/72 kit features fully engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit and exhaust cones, and a Cartograf decal sheet.
Box contents:
- Styrene sprues with fully engraved panel lines
- Fuselage, chines, wings, and twin canted fins
- Detailed J58 nacelles with exhaust cones and spikes
- Detailed two-seat cockpit
- Landing gear with optional raised or lowered position
- Optional position canopies
- Clear parts for canopies and glazing
- Cartograf-printed waterslide decal sheet
- Illustrated assembly and painting instructions
