The Boeing 737-800 is the best selling member of the Next Generation family, developed to replace the 737-400 with a new wing, redesigned tail surfaces, a digital flight deck and quieter, more efficient CFM56-7 engines. It entered service in April 1998 and went on to become the most numerous 737 of its generation, the backbone of low cost and mainline short haul fleets worldwide. UTair, based at Vnukovo in Moscow, took the type as part of its fleet modernisation, flying it on domestic Russian trunk routes and international services in the blue and white house scheme.
