The Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (“Gale”) was one of the best Japanese fighters of the Second World War. The Allies code-named it “Frank.” It entered service in 1944 with a 2,000 hp Homare radial engine, and it could match the latest American fighters for speed and climb while carrying heavier firepower than earlier Army types. About 3,500 were built, and the Hayate fought over China, the Philippines, Okinawa and the Japanese home islands until the end of the war. This Cute Plane kit from T-Model and Tiger Model turns the Hayate into a chubby, cartoon-style “egg plane” flown by a cheerful cat pilot in a leather flying helmet and scarf.
