The Aluma-Coupe was one of Boyd Coddington's most celebrated custom creations, built on a purpose-fabricated chassis with hand-formed aluminium body panels — a construction method more common to aircraft than automobiles. Powered by a rear-mounted turbocharged Mitsubishi V6, the car combined high-tech engineering with Boyd's signature minimalist elegance. The finished car received no fewer than 30 coats of bright yellow lacquer and became one of the defining show rod statements of the early 1990s custom scene.
