TAMWL.S072 - Tamiya 1/700 I-16 & I-58 Japan Navy Submarine - WWHP113824
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
This Tamiya Water Line Series kit builds two large Imperial Japanese Navy submarines of the Second World War, both with notable war records.
I-16 was a Type C1 attack submarine completed in March 1940. At 109 m and 2,184 tons, she was among the largest submarines of her day. She launched one of the Type A midget submarines in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and later served in the Indian Ocean and on supply runs in the Solomons until she was sunk by USS England in May 1944.
I-58 was a Type B3 boat completed in 1944, built with a hangar and catapult for a reconnaissance floatplane. On July 30, 1945, she torpedoed and sank the cruiser USS Indianapolis, which had just delivered parts of the atomic bomb to Tinian. It was one of the last major naval actions of the war.
This vintage kit builds both submarines in 1/700 with the I-58’s floatplane, as shown on the box art.
