The A6M3 Model 22 was a refinement of the Model 32, restoring the folded wingtip of the A6M2 to recover the range that had been sacrificed in the squared-off Model 32. Powered by the Sakae 21 engine and carrying additional fuel in the wings, it served extensively in the Solomons campaign from 1942 onward and was one of the more capable Zero variants encountered by Allied forces during the mid-war period. This kit is No. 85 in Tamiya's 1/72 Scale War Bird Collection, covering both the A6M3 Model 22 and the A6M3a Model 22 Ko sub-variant.
