The Volkswagen Schwimmwagen (Type 166) was the most widely produced amphibious car of the Second World War, with over 14,000 units built between 1942 and 1944. Based on the Kubelwagen's drivetrain and powered by an air-cooled 1,131cc flat-four engine, it could reach 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h on water, propelled by a folding rear-mounted screw and steered via the front wheels. It served primarily in reconnaissance and liaison roles across all German theatres of operation.
