Carlo Abarth built his reputation turning humble Fiats into giant killers, and the 695 SS was the wildest of the road-going Nuova 500 conversions. The tiny rear-mounted twin was bored out to 689cc and fitted with a Solex carburettor to produce 38hp, which in a car weighing barely 500kg was enough for genuine sports car pace. Flared front and rear wings covered wider wheels, the rear engine lid was propped permanently open for cooling, and the scorpion badge on the nose told everyone what they were dealing with.
