The Toyota Celica LB Turbo was developed by the Schnitzer team for the 1977 Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM), Germany's premier touring car series. Built on the Celica Liftback road car with extensive FRP bodywork, widened fenders, and a 2,090cc DOHC inline-4 turbo producing around 560hp, the car debuted in July 1977 and scored a class victory over the Porsche 935 at its first season outing. It raced in the Rodenstock/Schnitzer livery with car numbers from the 1977–78 DRM campaigns.
