The 1969 Le Mans 24 Hours had one of the closest finishes in the race’s history. Jacky Ickx protested the dangerous running start by walking slowly to his car and starting from the back of the field. In the closing hours, he and Hans Herrmann’s Porsche 908 swapped the lead several times, and Ickx crossed the line only about 100 metres ahead. He shared the #6 JW Automotive Gulf Ford GT40 with Jackie Oliver. Chassis 1075 had also won in 1968, which made it one of the few cars ever to win Le Mans twice. The win was the first of Ickx’s six Le Mans victories.
