Description
RMX8620 - Revell 1/65 Douglas X-3 Stiletto - WWHP113782
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The Douglas X-3 Stiletto was built to explore sustained flight at Mach 2. With its long needle nose and tiny, thin wings, it looked faster than almost anything else of its era. Its two Westinghouse J34 engines turned out to be badly underpowered, though, and the X-3 never broke the sound barrier in level flight. Even so, it gave engineers valuable early experience in machining titanium and in the dangerous problem of inertia coupling, and its short, thin wing influenced the design of the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Only one X-3 was ever built, and it is now in the National Museum of the US Air Force. This Revell History Makers kit is a reissue of Revell’s classic 1950s tooling.
