The 1957 Ford Ranchero was the first car-based pickup — a "car-unero" in Ford's own marketing — built on the full-size Ford platform and sharing its styling with the '57 Ford passenger car line. Its clean, low profile and car-derived interior made it a natural candidate for the custom and street machine treatment that flourished in California car culture through the 1970s and 80s. The Revell Ranchero tooling dates to 1960 in stock form; in 1984 the roof was chopped and the kit retooled as a street machine custom, reissued in this 1987 boxing.
