Mickey Thompson was one of the great names in American motorsport, setting records everywhere from the Bonneville Salt Flats to the drag strip. In 1960 he had driven his four-engined Challenger I past 400 mph, and the following year he built Attempt I to chase international class speed records. It was based on a Dragmaster tubular dragster frame covered in a lightweight aluminium body by Frank Kurtis. Two supercharged Pontiac four-cylinder engines of different sizes, with GMC blowers and Hilborn fuel injection, let it compete in both Class D and Class E. On 9 July 1961, Thompson broke the Class E record over the measured mile on the runways of March Air Force Base in Riverside, California. Revell released this kit in 1989 as part of its Special “Hot Rod” Model Series, licensed by Hot Rod magazine.
