The Embraer 195 is the largest member of the Brazilian manufacturer's E-Jet family, a stretched development of the E190 seating up to 124 passengers on short and medium haul routes. It filled the awkward gap between regional turboprops and the smallest Boeing and Airbus narrowbodies, and found a ready market with European regional carriers. Air Dolomiti, the Italian regional operating as part of the Lufthansa group, took its first E195s in 2009 and built the type into the backbone of its fleet, linking northern Italian cities with Munich and Frankfurt.
