The KV-1S was a lightened and faster development of the KV-1 heavy tank, introduced in 1942 in response to complaints from Red Army commanders that the original KV-1 was too slow and mechanically unreliable for mobile operations. The "S" designation stood for Skorostnoy (fast), achieved through a reduced armour thickness, smaller cast turret, and improved transmission. Though succeeded by the IS-1 from late 1943, the KV-1S served extensively in the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. PST's 1/72 kit provides link-and-length tracks and multiple Red Army tactical number options.
