The Grumman F6F Hellcat was designed specifically to counter the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, entering combat in August 1943. Powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800-10 Double Wasp producing 2,000 hp, the Hellcat was faster, better armoured, and more heavily armed than the Zero at most combat altitudes. It became the dominant US carrier fighter of the Pacific War's second half, with Hellcat pilots accounting for over 5,000 aerial victories. The Fleet Air Arm also operated the type as the Hellcat Mk.I and Mk.II. Original new tool from Otaki, 1976; OT2-29-600 is the 1985 boxing. Series No. 17.
