The Curtiss P-40E Warhawk was the primary American single-seat fighter in service at the outbreak of the Pacific War, equipping USAAF, RAF, and RAAF squadrons across multiple theatres. Powered by an Allison V-1710 engine and armed with six .50-calibre wing-mounted machine guns, the P-40E was outclassed by Axis fighters at altitude but proved effective at low-level combat and ground attack. It served with distinction from the Western Desert to the Aleutians.
