Model A pickups were the commercial workhorses of their day, and that is precisely what made them such good hot rod material once they got cheap. They had the room, the simple ladder frame and the upright cab that took well to a chopped roof and a dropped axle, and the same speed equipment developed for roadsters bolted straight onto them. Drop in a triple-carburetted flathead V8, add custom wheels and a set of flames, and you have the archetypal drive-in truck.
