The Husky Tactical Support Vehicle came out of an urgent operational requirement for Afghanistan, where the British Army needed a protected patrol vehicle that was tougher than a Snatch Land Rover but far more mobile than the heavy MRAP fleet. Developed from Navistar's heavy pickup chassis, the Husky combined armour and mine protection with genuine cross country ability at a weight light enough to be airlifted by transport aircraft or heavy helicopter. It entered service in 2009 alongside the Wolfhound and Coyote, carrying troops and supplies through ground where bridges and roads simply were not an option.
