The SEPECAT Jaguar came out of an Anglo French programme of the late 1960s, intended as an advanced trainer but developed into a fast, low level strike aircraft. The RAF version, the Jaguar GR.1, carried a more sophisticated navigation and attack system than its French counterpart and became a mainstay of NATO tactical strike through the 1970s and 1980s. RAF Jaguars flew hundreds of sorties against Iraqi forces during the 1991 Gulf War without a single combat loss, and the type went on to serve over the Balkans before finally retiring in 2007.
