The Ju-88 C was a heavy fighter and destroyer variant of the Ju-88 bomber, developed by converting the airframe with a solid nose housing cannon and machine gun armament in place of the glazed bomber nose. The C-6 was the principal production sub-variant, powered by two Jumo 211J engines and armed with three 20mm cannon and three 7.92mm MGs in the nose. It served with Zerstörergeschwader and Nachtjagdgeschwader units in the long-range fighter, maritime patrol, and night fighter roles from 1942 onward, and was among the first radar-equipped night fighters deployed by the Luftwaffe.
