HOMHA1409 - Hobby Master 1/72 Douglas A-4F Skyhawk US Navy Blue Angels
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was designed by Ed Heinemann, Douglas’s chief engineer, as a small, light and simple carrier attack jet. It first flew in 1954, and its small size let it fit on older carriers without folding wings. Pilots nicknamed it “Heinemann’s Hot Rod.” Nearly 3,000 were built, and it served the US Navy and Marines through Vietnam and with many other air forces. In 1974 the Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration team switched from the F-4J Phantom to the A-4F. The Skyhawk was cheaper to run and more nimble in front of a crowd, and the team flew it until it moved to the F/A-18 Hornet in 1986.
