The T-35 Heavy Tank (Late) was a Soviet interwar “multi-turreted land battleship” designed in the early 1930s to provide breakthrough firepower for the Red Army. It remains one of the most visually striking tanks ever fielded, featuring five turrets mounted on a massive hull: a main 76.2 mm gun turret supported by two 45 mm gun turrets and two machine-gun turrets. Despite its intimidating appearance and propaganda value, the T-35 suffered from serious real-world limitations—poor mobility, mechanical unreliability, and extremely cramped internal layout where turret crew compartments interfered with each other. By the time of Operation Barbarossa in 1941, most surviving T-35s were lost not in combat, but due to breakdowns during retreat. The “Late” version represents the final production standard with minor detail refinements and armor updates before the type was effectively rendered obsolete.
