Description
HAS01998 - Hasegawa - 1/72 TBM-1C & TBM-3 Avenger "Escort Carrier Combo" - WWHP113742
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Grumman Avenger was the US Navy’s standard torpedo bomber from 1942 onward, and with nearly 10,000 built it was the most produced torpedo bomber of the war. Grumman needed to focus on fighters, so General Motors’ Eastern Aircraft Division took over much of the production as the TBM. Flying from small escort carriers, Avengers hunted U-boats in the Atlantic and supported landings across the Pacific. The TBM-3 added a more powerful Wright R-2600 engine and strengthened wings. The type served on long after the war, including with the Royal Canadian Navy in the anti-submarine role through the 1950s.
