The T-80U was an advanced Soviet main battle tank, an upgraded variant of the gas-turbine-powered T-80 series introduced in the late 1980s. It carried a 125mm smoothbore gun capable of firing both conventional rounds and guided anti-tank missiles, paired with Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armour and a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun. Fast and well-protected, it formed part of the Soviet and later Russian armoured force through the end of the Cold War and beyond.
