The Conroy CL-44-O, universally known as the Skymonster or Guppy, was one of the strangest looking aircraft ever to earn a living. Jack Conroy, already responsible for the Pregnant Guppy conversions of the Boeing Stratocruiser, took a Canadair CL-44 and grafted on an enormously ballooned upper fuselage to create a genuine outsize freighter, one that retained the CL-44's swing tail for straight in loading. Only one was ever built. It flew for a string of operators including Transmeridian Air Cargo, and was pressed into carrying anything too bulky for a conventional hold, from aero engines to livestock.
