The Yak-9 was the Soviet Union's most produced fighter of World War II, arriving at the front in late 1942 and playing a decisive role in the air battles over Kursk and beyond. This kit covers three specialist late-war variants: the Yak-9DD (long-range escort with additional fuel tanks), the Yak-9T (fitted with a 37mm nose cannon for anti-armour and anti-shipping work), and the Yak-9K (armed with a massive 45mm cannon). All three used the later-production fuselage with the rearward-positioned cockpit and improved all-round vision canopy.
