McLaren Honda returned to Formula One in 2015, 23 years after the partnership that dominated the sport from 1988 to 1992. In those years Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost won four drivers’ titles in a row, and McLaren took 15 of 16 races in 1988 alone. The MP4-30 arrived in a very different era of Formula One. It used a 1.6 litre V6 turbo hybrid power unit with MGU-K and MGU-H energy recovery systems, and engine development was limited by a “token” system. The new partnership had a difficult first season. Jenson Button scored the team’s first point with eighth at Monaco, and at the Hungarian Grand Prix Fernando Alonso took fifth with Button ninth, giving the team its first double points finish. This kit shows the mid-season car in the graphite grey livery that McLaren introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix.
