Chevrolet introduced the El Camino in 1959 as a car-based pickup, combining passenger car comfort with a usable cargo bed. The fifth generation, built from 1978 to 1987, was based on GM’s mid-size G-body platform, shared with the Monte Carlo and Malibu. The SS package returned in the mid-1980s with an aerodynamic nose styled after the Monte Carlo SS, along with stripes and rally wheels. The El Camino was discontinued after 1987, so these last SS models are popular with collectors. This AMT/Ertl kit builds the 1986 El Camino SS with a 305 V8 and a detailed interior.
