The Deutsche Afrika Korps was Germany's elite desert force, deployed to North Africa from 1941 under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. Fighting across Libya and Egypt against the British Eighth Army, the DAK became renowned for its tactical flexibility and earned the respect of both sides before the Axis defeat at El Alamein in 1942–43.
