The de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver is one of Canada’s greatest aviation success stories. It first flew at Downsview in Toronto on August 16, 1947. It was designed as a rugged bush plane that could fly on wheels, floats or skis, and its short take-off performance and huge load-carrying ability made it a legend in the North. The U.S. Army and Air Force bought 968 as the L-20A (later U-6A) and used them in Korea, Vietnam and the Arctic. The British Army Air Corps also flew them for liaison and casualty evacuation. About 1,657 were built in total, all powered by the 450 hp Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior radial, and many are still flying today. This vintage Airfix kit builds either a British Army or U.S. Army Beaver.
