The Hurricane Mk.1 was the RAF's most numerous fighter during the Battle of Britain in 1940, accounting for more aerial victories than all other defences combined. Armed with eight .303 Browning machine guns and powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin, it bore the brunt of the Luftwaffe offensive while the Spitfire engaged fighter escorts.
