The DC-9 was Douglas's answer to the short haul jet market of the early 1960s, competing against the Caravelle and the BAC One-Eleven and outselling both combined. Rear-mounted engines, a T-tail, and built-in airstairs let it work airports with minimal ground equipment. The stretched Series 30 was the most numerous variant and proved remarkably durable in service, with Delta retiring its last examples in 2011, more than four decades after introduction. This is Airfix's 1973 tooling in 1/144, the original KLM boxing with markings for PH-DNH "Zurich".
