ACE72305 - ACE Models 1/72 Grumman AF-2S/3S Killer Guardian - WWHP113814

Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn

The Grumman AF Guardian was developed to replace the TBF Avenger in the US Navy’s anti-submarine role. It began as the XTB3F-1 torpedo bomber design. The Guardian worked in “hunter-killer” pairs. The AF-2W “hunter” carried a large search radar to find submarines, and the AF-2S “killer” carried the weapons, its own radar and a searchlight to make the attack. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp, the Guardian was one of the largest single-engine piston aircraft ever flown from US carriers. It served through the early 1950s, including the Korean War, before the twin-engine Grumman S-2 Tracker replaced it. This ACE kit builds the AF-2S/3S killer version and includes a photo-etched detail fret.
