The Brabham BT33 was designed by Ron Tauranac and was the first Formula 1 car built by the team to use a monocoque chassis rather than the spaceframe construction Brabham had stayed with through the 1960s. Powered by the Cosworth DFV V8, it debuted at the 1970 South African Grand Prix, where Jack Brabham won on its first outing in the last season of his driving career.
