The Boeing KC-135A Stratotanker entered service in 1957, developed from the Model 367-80 prototype that also led to the 707. Its flying boom gave Strategic Air Command the reach to keep bombers airborne on global alert, and 732 A models were built before later conversions re-engined much of the fleet. The type remains in USAF service today, well past six decades after the first delivery.
