The M113 is one of the most widely produced armoured vehicles ever built, an aluminium-hulled tracked carrier that first entered US Army service in 1960 and went on to serve in dozens of armies in every conceivable role. The A3 upgrade of the late 1980s brought a more powerful engine, improved transmission, external fuel tanks and provision for bolt-on armour, keeping the type viable well into the modern era. M113A3s served with IFOR and SFOR in the Balkans as well as in Iraq.
