The 3.7cm Flak 43 was a Rheinmetall-designed light anti-aircraft gun and a major step up from the earlier Flak 37. A new gas-operated breech lifted the practical rate of fire to around 150 rounds per minute, while a simplified design cut manufacturing time to roughly a quarter of what the older gun required. It entered service in 1944 and was used against low-flying aircraft on all fronts.
