The Vought A-7 Corsair II was developed from the F-8 Crusader as a subsonic light attack aircraft. The USAF version, the A-7D, added the more powerful Allison TF41 turbofan, an M61 Vulcan cannon and an advanced navigation and weapons delivery system that made it one of the most accurate bombers of its time. The 354th Tactical Fighter Wing took the A-7D to Korat, Thailand in 1972, where it flew combat and search and rescue escort missions over Southeast Asia. Air National Guard units went on flying the type until 1993.
