TAME089 - Tamiya 1/700 Japanese Military Transport Set - WWWEB10109070
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Imperial Japanese Navy lost many destroyers on dangerous supply runs to island garrisons, the “Tokyo Express” missions. In 1944 and 1945 it built purpose-designed fast transports to take over that work, and this Tamiya Water Line Series set includes one of each main type.
- No. 1-class (First Class) transport. A 1,500-ton, 22-knot ship that looked like a destroyer escort. Its sloped stern let it launch Daihatsu landing craft, or a Type A midget submarine, straight into the water. Twenty-one were built.
- No. 101-class (Second Class) transport. A 950-ton diesel landing ship with a bow ramp, similar to the American LST. It could run onto a beach and unload tanks directly.
Both types made supply and reinforcement runs in the Philippines and around the home islands in the final year of the war. Many were lost to air and submarine attack.
- Grey injection-moulded plastic parts in the sealed bag for both ships
- Type 1 transport with Type A midget submarine, Daihatsu landing craft and cutter
- Type 2 transport with Type 97 Chi-Ha tanks, Type 2 Ka-Mi amphibious tanks, landing craft and cutter
- Small tube of Tamiya cement
- Illustrated instructions
