The Scharnhorst was one of two fast battlecruisers operated by the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War, distinguished by her nine 28cm guns and exceptionally high speed for a ship of her size. She conducted commerce raiding operations in the Atlantic, participated in the Channel Dash of February 1942, and was sunk by HMS Duke of York and accompanying forces during the Battle of the North Cape in December 1943. Tamiya's 1/700 Water Line Series kit presents the Scharnhorst as a waterline display model in her wartime configuration.
