The Mustang was headed for the scrapyard when the Korean War began, and hundreds of F-51Ds were pulled from storage in Japan. Jets could not operate from the rough forward strips the UN forces were left with, so the old piston fighter went back to work as a close support aircraft, carrying bombs, rockets, and napalm within minutes of the front line.

This is Tamiya kit 61044, Aircraft Series No.44, first released in 1996. It comes with a full ground attack load of two 500lb bombs, six HVAR rockets, and two 75 gallon tanks for use as napalm canisters, plus a pilot figure. Scale-Master decals cover three Korean War aircraft, including the shark mouthed 12th FBS machine on the box. Finished model is 205mm long with a 236mm span.
