The Panzer IV was the workhorse of the German armoured divisions, the only German tank in continuous production throughout the Second World War. The Ausf.G, built from March 1942, marked the point where the type shed its infantry support role and became a genuine gun tank, mounting the long 7.5cm KwK 40 L/43 that could finally deal with the T-34 and the KV-1 on equal terms. Early production vehicles left the factory in dark grey, and those shipped to North Africa were often oversprayed in tropical brown, while some in Russia were seen still wearing their Africa camouflage. Tamiya's kit captures the early Ausf.G with the sharp detail and clean engineering the marque is known for.
