The Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf.D was the final and by far the most numerous version of the Hanomag halftrack, introduced in 1943 with a simplified welded hull that traded the earlier models' faceted sides for flat, sloped plates and integral stowage bins, all of it aimed at faster production. As the standard mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen, the 251/1 carried a Panzergrenadier section into action alongside the tanks and served on every front until the end of the war. Tamiya's kit captures the Ausf.D's distinctive running gear and open-topped troop compartment, and remains one of the most widely built halftrack kits in 1/35 scale.
