The original Mini, designed by Alec Issigonis and launched in 1959, redefined the small car with its transverse engine, front-wheel drive, and revolutionary space-efficient layout. The Cooper name returned to the Mini range under Rover ownership in 1990, with the 1.3i variant bringing fuel injection to the classic body — a final flourish for the original Mini's format before the BMW-era redesign ended production in 2000. The Rover Mini Cooper 1.3i is widely regarded as the last of the true classic Minis and remains a collector favourite.

Tamiya's Big Scale Series No. 31 captures the car in 1/12 scale with a high level of interior and mechanical detail. Decals are included for both the red/white and British Racing Green/white stripe colour schemes shown on the box.
