The first Tigers in combat went to North Africa, where s.Pz.Abt. 501 landed in Tunisia from November 1942 with initial production vehicles still fitted with Feifel air cleaners and rubber tyred road wheels. In early 1943 its companies were absorbed into 10. Panzer Division and turret numbers were repainted, leaving the old numbers faintly showing through on several machines.
